Wiper motor. Failed halfway through a sweep. To be fair, it was covered in snow and ice and I accidentally hit the switch after starting the car before getting back out to scrape windows. So maybe it’s more my fault.

They’re not my tracks, this was before I got in the car. Don’t fret, when snow happens, oppo happens

That entrance seems scary easy to end up sliding right into the street.

Going down is surprisingly fine. ABS kicks in sometimes. But there’s a big bike lane at the bottom and the road itself goes upward, so it’s really easy to stop once you get to the bottom.

I do this more often than I care to admit, luckily I haven’t killed a motor yet. I typically turn them on, say “oh shit”, and hurry out to unstick the wipers.

Is this the single-wiper setup where it dips in the middle? My ‘87 300D had that ...

I dunno, I’ve done that about a thousand times in my truck, and no failures.
The vinyl steering wheel is getting kinda grody though.

But this has some crazy mechanism because it’s only a single wiper. It failed right where the wiper arm moves outwards. Usually the linkage mechanism wears out, stressed the motor for a while, then the straw meets the camel’s back. They don’t actually fail that often on 210's. 202's on the other hand...

Used to work at a wiper manufacturer, we actually test for this. The motors have a thermal trip in them and will turn off if they get stuck. Let them cool off a bit and they’ll start working again. Also used to do snow pack testing. Glue big old rubber strips to the windshield up pretty high, like when snow gets packed up there, and run at high speed until something breaks or passes. The systems can actually take quite a bit of punishment.

Well that’s neat
